How do I use FTP to access my Minecraft server?FTP is a way to transfer files between your computer and your Minecraft server. It allows you to view, download, and upload files to and from the machine running your Minecraft Server.
FTP is a protocol like HTTP so just as you can use different web browsers to surf the web there is a wide variety of FTP software available that can be used to connect to an FTP server.
At EscapedTurkey, we highly recommend an FTP client program called FileZilla because it's easy to use, multi-platform, fast, stable, free, and open source. You can download FileZilla from this page: http://filezilla-project.org/download.php
Once FileZilla is installed, you can connect to the FTP server by typing in the FTP connection details in the toolbar at the top of the main application window. As circled in red on this screenshot:
To connect to the server, type in the connection details that you have received in your welcome email. Please note that the port is 61 and NOT your Minecraft server's port.
Once you are connected, you will see the contents of the server (remote) on the right pane. The left pane allows you to browse file on your computer (local). To download a file or folder, simply drag and drop it from the right pane to the left pane. You can do the same operation in inverse for uploading.
Now you know how to use FTP with your Minecraft server! Just remember to stop the server via the control panel before replacing, moving, or touching the main .jar file.
